This marks three weeks since we arrived in Glasgow, about, and it has been an unqualified success. The outer Hebrides were great. The week on the narrow boat was both calm and exciting at times. Now as we venture north through the parts of Scotland which we have never seen, we are encountering beauty that at times leaves us speechless.
The various guesthouses and B&B’s and boat that we have used have been very comfortable. We have had, perhaps, a scone or seven too many - overall the food has been delicious. We have had breakfast at our own places, sometimes lunch is in, sometimes out. Supper is usually in house.
We have made a special effort to give each other a bit of space, and at times go our separate ways for an hour or two, but for the most part we venture out and enjoy this adventure together.

This last two days we have explored the strip of Scotland from Elgin to Pennan, the tiny village where they filmed Local Hero, a great movie if you haven’t seen it. The villages tend to be perched along the numerous bays on this coast. They are quiet, very orderly places of mainly painted stone cottages. Some have a pub or cafĂ©, some don’t. The tiny harbours hold a wide array of boats from pleasure to working fishing types. John’s a boat guy, so he has enjoyed it, especially the older ones. Lots of pictures have been taken.
Today we leave our little cottage in Kellas and proceed through Inverness, up the north west coast to Durness. Till then….
