We're In Glasgow And It's Raining...Who Knew?
Every 5 years we convene, somewhere in the world, with our oldest friends. I don't mean they are old, at least not Von, but anyway, John and Von Kemister have been friends since our days as newly weds.
When we left Australia to return to Canada in 1974 we knew that we didn't want to lose touch with this wonderful couple so we made a date to meet up on our 25th anniversary. We met on the Cook Islands and had a great time but decided that 25 years was too long to wait for the next reunion so we chose 5 years and have gotten together every 5 years since.
This time we chose Scotland since Von's ancestors were Scottish, and we have Dorian here. Sheelagh and Von have created an itinerary taking us to the Hebrides and the Orknies as well as an inland canal system and places in between.
We found a very charming B&B in Glasgow to meet for two days before we set off. Dorian suggested a good restaurant nearby where we had an excellent supper last night. I find losing weight so hard.
Today we had recovered very well, I thought, from our jet lag, so we went over to the town of Stirling to let the Kemisters have a look at the castle and Sheelagh and I to look around the village. It was very pleasant.
Tomorrow we pick up our car and set off up island to the Island of Lewis. So long for now.
