The Oohing and Ahhing Road.

This blog should be mostly pictures. The south end of Harris at Leverburgh, which is our home base today, is on one of the circular roads that follow the coast past a non stop series of awe inspiring views. After breakfast, we drove east to the ancient church known as St Clements which was built by the chiefs of the MacDonald clan. It sits perched on a knoll overlooking the ocean and is strictly an historic site now.
After having a good look around we took probably the narrowest road that we had since our arrival. They began measuring the width of the roads in Georges and this was 1 1/5 Georges wide.

The Island here was rocky and green at the same time. The heather was beautiful, and small streams tumbled down the hillsides everywhere.

We crossed to the west side of Harris and drove out to Huishnish to see what someone had called the most beautiful beach in the world. Well, it may not have been that, but it was very lovely and we strolled the white sand and felt ourselves relax in it peace and beauty.

We stopped for a cream tea, visited art galleries and drove home over a moonscape of gray rock. It was a magic day in a place that, tomorrow, we must leave. The outer Hebrides are a wondrous place to visit.
