Off To The Highlands

I'm very happy that we have access to an Aussi. Those blokes can drive on the wrong side of the road just like the pommies. John got us down to the car rental place no prob. We switched to our new contract, same car. Then out of the city in the shake of a lamb's tail.

You know, for such a little place, it takes a while to get anywhere here. We went up the A80 past Stirling and then we nipped off onto a smaller side road and enjoyed a more picturesque and more leisurely drive to Pitlochery for lunch. This is a very pretty town with gray stone buildings and a surprising number of flowers still blooming their little hearts out.

From there we continued on to Inverness one of Sheelagh and I's most hated list. Skirted the dratted place, although our son Dorian tells us we should give it another chance. But then Dorian loves all things Scottish.

As we moved past Inverness, the hills got more rugged and more treeless. The small streams running off the hills were pretty and little rivers tusseled their way to the sea. Ullapool sat nestled on the Minch. This is the name of the sea between the Islands and the mainland. It is a very tidy village with a row of white washed buildings looking out over the water. We settled into our B&B and walked down for fish and chips before retiring to our comfortable beds.
