The Guy Is Toast

Yesterday was wonderful. We met up with Dorian in George Square, and headed off for lunch. The Boteco Do Brazil is a very good restaurant serving ethnic fare on a busy pedestrian street. Lots of vibe. Shush had a baked aubergine that she loved. Dorian had a spicy chicken dish and mine was strips of steak. I`m not sure how authentic it was, but it was good.
From there we wandered around the shops looking for a sports jacket for me that cries out SCOTTISH!!! I found the one I like, and may go back for it if nothing else pops up. The streets were vibrating with energy, as pipers and drummers worked the crowd into an hysteria in anticipation of Guy Fawks Night.
To calm ourselves down, we had tea in The Willow Tea Room. This establishment is done a la Charles Rennie MacIntosh. Google him to see his style. Shortly after that we boarded a bus to go out to Bishopbriggs to visit with Derek Wood. This is the dear man who, with his wife Doreen,  took Dorian under their wing when he first went to Glasgow. Sadly, Derek lost Doreen about a year ago. It was good to see him again.

After leaving there, we went down to the Glasgow Green where Sheelagh got to see a spectacular fireworks show, one of her favorite pastimes. There were thousands of people there enjoying the fireworks and rides in a carnival atmosphere as they celebrated Guy Fawks Night. As we made our way home, other smaller displays of pyrotechnics continued. It was a fun, full day.

  1. as always, Toast caught my eye! It sounds like you are having a great time. Please pass on our greetings to Dorian. We had a good, quick trip to Edmonton and spent some time with D&K. They are counting down the days until Nov 28 which is the official due date. All's well there. While we were gone from home, Calgary had the first snow storm of the season! There were numerous crashes in the city on Friday, but today as we motored home there was almost no snow left. Hopefully the snow will hold off until Dec 25 at least! AEG will be at Spruce Meadows for 2 weekends beginning on Friday. Over and out for now. K
