So Long, Farewell

October 31st, the end of our 40th anniversary trip. It’s a cliché to say it, but 7 weeks have gone by so fast.

We talked about all the highs last night - couldn’t come up with any lows until this morning when the fire alarm went off at 5am. It was bucketing down with rain, the wind blowing to beat the band.

After all the stories we’ve heard about enemies coming and burning down castles, we got dressed and went out to defend our property. We went to the car and waited for the fire department to come, actually. Our castle roof had leaked and shorted the alarm system.

The rain continued as we drove north, up the coast to Largs. John and Von wanted to see a typical seaside town from Victorian times. There were some hearty souls walking the promenade in the rain, which is typical for a Scottish seaside holiday.
And then it was time for the Glasgow airport and our friends to start their long journey home to Canberra. We miss them already and plans are roiling around in our heads for our 45th anniversary trip, the Lord willing.
