Charles Designs A Church

In1896, the Free Church of St Matthew commissioned the young, relatively unknown, architect Charles Rennie MacKintosh to design a church in Queen's Cross, Glasgow.

The resulting structure served as a place of worship until 1976 when the congregational numbers declined to the point where it was turned over to the Charles Rennie Mackintosh Society.

Today it serves as one of several examples of Mackintosh's work remaining in and around Glasgow. As we strolled through the church, the simple looking designs make me think that I could do that. But in truth, few people in the world could do what he has done. Frank Lloyd Wright's work is startlingly similar. But nobody will say that one influenced the other. Both of these men designed everything in one of their structures, from furniture to stained glass to lights.

Here are some pictures taken in the church.
