Close encounters of the Elephant kind

As we said in the last blog, we were on our way to see the elephants. We were grinding our way up a steep, narrow creek bed. A slight bend to the right was approaching. Strolling around the bend came one of the bull elephants.

We began to back up, no easy task as there was no room for us both on the track. He kept up his leisurely pace downhill.

We got to the meeting of another track and our driver pulled over as far as he could. We were all hoping the elephant would choose the other path. But no.

He decided be was going to continue straight ahead, which is how Sheelagh ended up inches from an elephant.

The driver is whispering, "Don't touch him. Don't touch him." And George is whispering,"I need to go back to the Lodge to change my undies." The elephant brushed us off as if we were flies and continued on his way,

Wow! Wow! and Wow!

We did get pretty close at other times as well.

So, that's a check on Sheelagh's bucket list,
