Shop Till You Drop

So ya see what I'm sayin'?

Today was shopping day. Shopping in Milan is a serious thing.

The fact that all of these stores surround the Duomo brought to mind a certain New Testament story about whips and overturned tables. But enough of that.

We caught the streetcar just by us and rattled our way to mid town. The shopping area is primarily a series of long arched streets. But the beautiful Galleria Vittorio Emmanuel II, inspired by Eiffel, tops them all.

Marble and glass surround you as the throngs of shoppers, with eyes gleaming, survey the endless choices of clothing and leather goods.

Beatrix quickly found a purse that her Mom would REALLY like for 1600 Euros. Oh well. Many other such eye popping discoveries would follow.

There was only one solution,  One must place ones' heel on a certain part of the bull and spin twice in a clockwise direction. Good luck will follow. And so it did. Shortly there after she found the perfect gifts for her Mom and her Dad. But more importantly, we found lunch!!!

Then, poor Grandad's life slowed to a crawl. He sat in a shop, surrounded by huge screens showing the same young models flouncing around in the same outfits over and over and over again, accompanied by music that ate straight into the cortex of what was left of his brain. Sheelagh and Beatrix, meanwhile, had a whale of a time as Bea tried on outfits. Success!!! Outfit found and Grandad was able to get out of there.

We paused to greet Leonardo. Smart man. He said that he was part owner of Armani.

The beautiful Duomo. We are coming back to visit it tomorrow.

Street musicians were popular. This lady soothed my brain with her gentle harp music.

We rattled off back to our digs after another great day with our sweet Granddaughter.

  1. Well, I feel your pain GHS. I'm delighted that (so far) I haven't been compelled to go shopping in Milan. Sounds (no pun intended) awful. But . . . Beatrix appears to be having the time of her life, and that's priceless:) Shopping at the Salvage Centre betwixt HR & Okotoks yesterday produced a pair of nearly new 'made in Spain' shoes for HK, and a pair of pristine warm winter boots for KLG! As well as a neckerchief for Wilson. Total outlay: $8.25 CAD! Thanks for all the pics!
