Barcelona In The Sun / Buildings We Liked

We're staying in the Gothic district of Barcelona and the buildings here are very close together, if not indeed joined. So, in the morning we need to go out onto our tiny balcony and look straight up to get an idea of the weather. This morning it was a narrow ribbon of bright blue sky showing between the roof edges.
After quickly completing our ablutions we set out to explore our city before going to the Sagrada Familia for our 10:30 viewing. (The next blog). There seemed to be an extra sense of energy on the street with the sun pouring down. The narrow streets in the Gothic are predominately pedestrian. There are cars and motor scooters zooming about, but the bikes are the most likely to catch you unawares.

We set off up through Catalunya Plaza and stopped on Pg Gracia, the Barcelona  equivalent of the Champs Elysee , where we had breakfast of ham and cheese bakes and tea and coffee.

Such a wonderful feel for us to be part of this pulsing mass of humanity. The pastry may be the reason I felt part of the mass.

The architecture of this city is such as to renew our belief that art can become an important part of our daily surroundings. For example, why would you put a street lamp on an ugly pole when it could be on this?

Why would you make a building a box when they can be like these?

As a second example of a way that Barcelona is like Paris, from the other evening, here is the Arc de Triomf which is just up the street from us.

We saw dozens of examples of creative thought in the buildings. But the ordinary household items are not spared from the artistic touch. This bath tub caught our eye.

We really like this bustling city. It is pleasing to the soul to see what humans can create given the freedom to do so.
